Types of Wounds Treated
Our experienced team and dedicated group of professionals are passionate about elevating the standard of care.
Diabetic Ulcers
A diabetic lower extremity ulcer is a wound that develops on the feet or legs of individuals with diabetes, often due to poor circulation, nerve damage, and impaired immune function associated with the disease. These ulcers can be slow to heal and prone to infection due to reduced blood flow and sensation in the affected area, as well as compromised immune response. Additionally, diabetes can lead to complications such as neuropathy (nerve damage) and peripheral vascular disease, further complicating the healing process and increasing the risk of serious complications such as amputation.
Pressure Ulcers
A pressure ulcer, also known as a bedsore or decubitus ulcer, is a localized injury to the skin and/or underlying tissue, typically over a bony prominence, resulting from pressure or pressure in combination with shear. These ulcers often occur in individuals who are immobile or have limited mobility, and they can range in severity from mild skin redness to deep wounds that extend into muscle and bone.
Non-Healing Surgical Wounds
A non-healing surgical wound refers to a surgical incision or site that fails to progress through the normal stages of wound healing within the expected timeframe, typically within several weeks following the procedure. These wounds may exhibit persistent inflammation, drainage, or lack of granulation tissue formation, and they often remain open or partially closed despite appropriate wound care measures. Non-healing surgical wounds can result from various factors such as infection, poor circulation, underlying health conditions, compromised immune function, or inadequate surgical technique. Prompt evaluation and management are essential to address the underlying issues and facilitate proper healing.
Venous Leg Ulcers
A venous leg ulcer is a type of chronic wound that develops on the lower leg, usually around the ankle area, as a result of venous insufficiency. Venous insufficiency occurs when the valves in the veins of the legs do not function properly, leading to poor blood circulation and pooling of blood in the lower extremities. This pooling of blood can cause increased pressure in the veins, leading to tissue damage and the formation of ulcers. Venous leg ulcers typically present as shallow, painful, and often weeping wounds with irregular edges. They may be slow to heal and tend to recur if underlying venous insufficiency is not adequately managed.
Arterial Ulcers
An arterial wound, also known as an ischemic ulcer or arterial ulcer, is a type of wound that occurs due to inadequate blood supply to a specific area of tissue, typically in the extremities such as the legs or feet. Arterial wounds commonly develop as a result of peripheral arterial disease (PAD), a condition in which the arteries that supply blood to the limbs become narrowed or blocked, reducing blood flow. As a consequence of reduced blood flow, tissues receive insufficient oxygen and nutrients, leading to tissue damage and ulceration. Arterial ulcers often present as painful, deep, and "punched out" wounds with well-defined edges. These wounds may be slow to heal and are at risk of infection and further complications if not appropriately managed. Treatment typically focuses on improving blood flow and addressing underlying arterial disease.
Neuropathic Ulcers
A non-diabetic neuropathic ulcer is a painless wound that develops due to nerve damage in individuals without diabetes, often resulting from various conditions or factors such as trauma, infections, autoimmune diseases, nutritional deficiencies, or toxic exposures.
Chronic Non Healing Ulcer
A chronic non-healing wound refers to a persistent wound that fails to progress through the normal stages of healing within an expected timeframe, typically within several weeks or months. These wounds may remain open, partially closed, or exhibit signs of persistent inflammation, drainage, or lack of granulation tissue formation. Chronic non-healing wounds can result from various factors such as infection, poor circulation, underlying health conditions, compromised immune function, or inadequate wound care. Effective management often requires addressing underlying issues, such as infection control, optimizing circulation, and promoting tissue repair through specialized wound care techniques.
Trauma Wounds
Traumatic wounds are injuries to the skin and underlying tissues caused by physical force or external factors such as cuts, lacerations, abrasions, punctures, or contusions. These wounds typically occur as a result of accidents, falls, burns, bites, or other forms of trauma. Traumatic wounds can vary in severity, ranging from minor cuts and scrapes to deep lacerations or extensive tissue damage. Treatment of traumatic wounds depends on factors such as the type, size, and depth of the injury, and may involve cleaning, debridement, closure with sutures or staples, and appropriate wound care to promote healing and prevent infection.
Infected Wounds
Infected wounds are wounds invaded by harmful microorganisms, causing inflammation and impaired healing. Examples include osteomyelitis (bone infection), abscesses (pus-filled pockets), cellulitis (skin and tissue infection), and gas gangrene (severe tissue destruction by bacteria). These conditions are managed medically through treatments such as antibiotics, surgical drainage or debridement, and supportive care to promote healing and prevent complications
